Mark E. Freeman, M.D.
Prior to arriving to Idaho, Dr. Mark Freeman worked in an exclusive cosmetic surgery practice in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. He is a dedicated professional with a long history of academic achievement, who has shown significant leadership and expertise in surgical research. Listed below is a detailed account of his years of surgical training, which explains why he is helping to set the standard of plastic surgery in the local community.
Medical School
Dr. Freeman graduated with Honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine. During this time, he chaired the AMA Health Care Issues Conference for the Southeastern US and had the rare opportunity, as a student, to present his research to the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Freeman published 4 articles in major surgical journals and presented his research at 2 different national meetings, while only a medical student.
Residency
Dr. Freeman secured a competitive position as a surgery resident at the prestigious Mayo Clinic. During this five year period, he authored numerous surgical papers, presented at several national meetings and was awarded the Excellence in Teaching award. As a Chief Resident, Dr. Freeman was honored to author a chapter in the Mayo Clinic’s first official surgical textbook.
Plastic Surgery Fellowship
Dr. Freeman obtained a fellowship position at the world famous Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. During this time, Dr. Freeman was board certified by the American Board of Surgery, again was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award and continued significant surgical research. As a fellow, he was invited to present his research in breast surgery to the International Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in Sydney, Australia.
Facial Aesthetic Fellowship
Following his plastic surgery fellowship, Dr. Freeman chose to pursue optional, advanced training in aesthetic surgery. He was invited to Melbourne, Australia to work with Dr. Bryan Mendelson, a world renowned expert and President-elect of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Freeman assisted his mentor in studies which led to the discovery of several innovative procedures to correct aging of the jowls and lower face. During this time, he was invited to present his research to the European Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in Vienna, Austria.
Aesthetic & Laser Fellowship
On his return to the U.S., Dr. Freeman was awarded the opportunity to work in Los Angeles with the internationally recognized (and often televised) plastic surgeon, Dr. Grant Stevens. Under his guidance, he learned advanced techniques in breast surgery, body contouring and laser therapy. While in L.A., Dr. Freeman appeared on several television programs with his mentor including Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, authored 5 separate papers on cosmetic plastic surgery, and worked with several other ‘surgeons to the stars’ in Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.
Practice
Following his training, Dr. Freeman was Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons and began practice in the resort town of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. After considerable experience in an exclusive cosmetic practice, Dr. Freeman decided to join Dr. Catherine Durboraw at The Center for Aesthetics in Idaho Falls and to establish a presence in the communities of Jackson Hole, Sun Valley and Twin Falls. He looks forward to bringing the most up to date advances in aesthetic plastic surgery to his patients and to help set the standard for plastic surgery in Idaho.
Service
Dr. Freeman has also actively pursued a role in service to his community. He has worked with Habitat for Humanity, staffed free medical clinics for the indigent and volunteered for several international medical mission trips. Most recently he traveled to Vietnam and Thailand where his team corrected cleft lip and palate deformities in infants and young children. The team also held educational conferences for local surgeons.
